Determination of Streptococcus pneumonia Serotypes Isolated from Clinical Specimens: A Step Toward the Production of a Native Vaccine in Iran

Background: Streptococcus pneumoniae remains a major cause of invasive streptococcal diseases among all age groups, particularly infants and the elderly. Objectives: This study aimed to recognize determine S. serotypes isolated from clinical specimens by multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Serotype distribution consisted 83.5% vaccine serotype 16.5% nonvaccine serotype. 6B significantly more frequent (P < 0.05) (75%) compared their noninvasive counterparts (25%). 13-valent conjugate (PCV-13) disease (IPD) non-IPD revealed 83% 84% serotypes, respectively. Moreover, identified covered PCV-13 serotypes. Conclusions: common groups are PCV-13.
